Multi-Detector Wipe Test Counter · Nuclear Medicine

Multi-Wiper™

The world’s first gamma counter designed specifically for the Nuclear Medicine Department. Counts up to 10 wipes simultaneously, with AutoSpect™ DPM from a single calibration source. Cuts a 40-minute weekly wipe survey down to 4 minutes — and pays for itself in the patient procedures it frees up time to run.

  • 2–10Detector wells
  • Up to 1MeVEnergy range
  • 0.85"Lead shielding
  • 300k cpsCount rate capability
  • <30WPower draw

Overview

The wipe-test counter that makes the time it takes disappear.

A moderate-sized nuclear medicine department runs about 40 wipes a week. On a single-well counter that’s 40+ minutes of technologist time. On a 10-well Multi-Wiper, it’s 4. The Multi-Wiper is built on the same Genesys-platform detector design that has run in clinical labs since 1985 — now configured for wipe-test workflow, with AutoSpect™ automatic isotope DPM, automatic record-keeping, and the calibration-source budget your department actually has.

Productivity that pays for itself

10 detectors counting in parallel turn weekly wipe surveys from a 40-minute task into a 4-minute task. An average department recovers $120,000 in patient-procedure revenue over five years — documented in our customer brochure with conservative thyroid-uptake math.

AutoSpect™ — one source, every isotope

Other counters need a separate calibrated source for every isotope you use. The Multi-Wiper takes a single Cs-137 source and gives you accurate DPM on any gamma-emitting isotope up to 1 MeV. The math is in the firmware. The savings are in your reagent budget.

Regulatory compliance, automated

What used to be 80 manual steps is now 8. Reports come out clean, dated, isotope-tagged, and inspector-ready. No transcription errors, no missed entries, no log-book gaps. The records the NRC actually wants to see — without the technologist hours that used to produce them.

Configurations

The Multi-Wiper ships in 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, 8-, and 10-well configurations. Same chassis, same firmware, same detector design — pick the throughput that matches your weekly wipe survey load.

High-energy work? The Multi-Wiper HE is a specialty configuration with 2″×2″ NaI(Tl) crystals tuned for trace-sensitive 300–800 keV counting (Cr-51, low-activity PET/theranostics) — see Configurations for details.

Key Features

Engineered for the work you actually do.

Every feature on the Multi-Wiper exists because a customer told us they needed it — and most of them tell you something about the people who designed it.

Independent NaI(Tl) wells

Each well is its own NaI(Tl) crystal + photomultiplier with a drilled well and a removable plastic liner. A contaminated wipe in one well never poisons the rest of the run. Liner replacements take seconds; full assemblies are field-serviceable in an afternoon.

AutoSpect™ isotope DPM

Enter any gamma-emitting isotope up to 1 MeV; the Multi-Wiper returns accurate DPM without per-isotope calibrated standards. Calibrate the instrument once with Cs-137 and you’re covered for I-131, Tc-99m, F-18, In-111, Ga-67, Tl-201 and the rest of your isotope deck.

E-Lead™ crosstalk correction

0.85 inches of total radial lead shielding wraps each detector — a 0.65″ outer cast-lead sheet plus a 0.2″ lead “pig” wrapping each individual detector module. The two-element construction puts 0.4″ of lead between adjacent wells (from the touching pig walls) for physical crosstalk suppression. On top of that, our proprietary E-Lead correction eliminates well-to-well crosstalk even at 511 keV (F-18), so a hot wipe in one well doesn’t inflate the count in its neighbor.

4096-channel MCA, 12-bit ADC

Every well feeds a 4096-channel multi-channel analyzer with high-resolution 12-bit ADC, automatic dead-time correction, and pole-zero baseline restoration. Integral linearity better than 0.5%, count-rate capability up to 300,000 cps. Spectral accuracy that competing well counters don’t come close to.

Automatic flagging at trigger

Pre-specify the isotope per wipe location, set the trigger level, and the Multi-Wiper flags any wipe over threshold automatically — with the location name printed on the report so you know which spot in the survey route was hot. If you also need forensic identification of an unknown isotope from the spectrum, see the Wiper Gold — that capability lives on the single-detector counter with the built-in MCA.

Pass / fail flagging at the trigger you set

Set per-isotope DPM trigger levels. Wipes that exceed trigger get flagged on the printout and on screen. The technologist sees the problem at the moment of the count — not in a binder review later.

Single-PCB embedded controller

CPU, memory, I/O, multichannel analyzer, and high voltage all on a single PCB built around modern surface-mount CPLD. Fewer connectors, fewer failure modes, less heat — and one board to swap if a unit ever needs depot service.

Paper records, digital records, or both

Every Multi-Wiper ships with a full-page printer (laser or industrial impact, your choice). Plug it in — no driver install, no IT ticket, no Windows. Each wipe survey gets a clean, dated, signed-off record on physical paper for the binder. Or pair with LTI Capture™ — every report captured directly to a properly named PDF, filed into a searchable archive, and optionally exported as CSV to your LIS/LIMS. A single USB-to-Serial cable replaces the printer; the instrument doesn’t change. Some labs run both: paper for the binder, PDF for the network share.

Universal power, <30W

100–240 VAC universal automatic power supply. Less than 30 watts. Generator-friendly, UPS-friendly, ride-out-the-summer-brownout friendly. Same instrument ships to a hospital in Cleveland or Cape Town.
